Intermediate Engineers.

We're looking for intermediate engineers to join the Auckland team in Grafton. Mechanical, process or design backgrounds all fit. Real plant work from day one, on jobs where the engineering has real consequences.

The role

You'll work on operating industrial plant across dairy, meat, energy and refrigeration: the kind of multi-discipline jobs where the engineering matters and the plant has to keep running while you work on it.

This is hands-on from the start. You won't be parked on one slice of a project behind a project manager. You sit with the senior engineer on the job and see it end to end: concept, detailed design, site, commissioning. The engineer our clients meet is the engineer who delivers, and that starts at the intermediate level.

What you'll get to do

  • Scope and design real plant: mechanical systems, process equipment, pipework and structures for industrial sites.
  • Get on site. Site visits, design reviews, commissioning. The engineer who designs the job is the one who sees it through.
  • Work across disciplines and sectors rather than being pigeonholed into one. Technical variety a large firm can't match, with project ownership a small firm can't sustain.
  • Write clear reports and calculations. You can write a good report and email without leaning on AI to do the thinking.
  • Progress toward CPEng. We fund the assessment, write the references, and structure your work to cover the competencies.

Your profile

  • A degree in mechanical, chemical or process engineering, or close.
  • Around three to seven years' experience. Consulting experience is a bonus, not a must.
  • CPEng, or well on the pathway.
  • You like good, old-fashioned engineering done properly, and you want to own your work.
  • Values we hire for: passion, curiosity, integrity, respect, communication, and leaving the plant and the people better than you found them.

What Dobbie offers

  • Competitive remuneration.
  • Free health insurance and a matched 4% KiwiSaver contribution on top of salary.
  • Funded professional memberships and CPEng assessment support.
  • Funded training: industry conferences, technical short courses, refrigeration and pressure-equipment qualifications.
  • Flexible working. Auckland office, a hybrid week, occasional remote when the job suits. Recently refurbished Grafton office, walking distance to the train and the Domain.
  • Engineering-grade AI tooling supplied to every engineer, so the repetitive parts of the job get done faster and you spend more time on the engineering.
  • Toitū Carbon Zero certified workplace. ISO 9001 systems behind every project.
